Bonjour from France – 2013 IRB Junior World Championships

The Australian Junior Wallabies have arrived in France and we have set up camp in Vannes which is one of three towns in the Brittany region that is hosting this year’s World Cup. An annual tournament showcasing the best under 20 rugby talent in the world and a platform from which many current international careers have been launched.

This is my third year with the team and after a very disappointing campaign in Capetown last year where we finished 8th out of 12 teams we have re-evaluated our program and are back looking for redemption.

The boys have settled in well and after a good training hit out against Scotland we are now in our final preparation phases for our first pool match against Ireland on Wed 5th June. Following this we play New Zealand on the 9th and Fiji on the 13th before we split into play off groups. Both the Ireland and NZ games are sold out and there is a real buzz building around the town of Vannes. The quick turnaround times between games at this tournament adds another aspect to our preparation and the teams that cope with this the best will have an added advantage. Look out for our captain and Queensland Reds player Curtis Browning to have a good tournament along with our no. 10 Jake McIntyre. Players to watch making an impact are our two North’s players Michael Wells and Pat Sio. All our matches will be shown live on Fox Sports.
