Coastrek Walk

On Friday 1st March, Holly and I volunteered at the 50km mark of the Coastrek walk. The event is aimed at raising funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation and teams have the option of walking either 50 or 100km from Palm Beach to Coogee. This was the 3rd Coastrek event and conditions were particularly challenging with walkers experiencing relentless rain and even hail at times. Holly and I were luckily out of the rain and under a tent treating and advising patients with a wide range of conditions including blistered feet, sprained ankles and lower limb overuse injuries. Congratulations to all of our patients who completed all or part of the walk in such tough conditions. If you are interested in competing in an event please drop in and get advice about appropriate footwear, foot and knee taping and exercises to prepare you for an endurance event such as this. It was interesting for us to see the number of walkers that were ill prepared and in pain. Many of their problems could have been prevented prior to the event by seeing a Physio.
