“Waino” to Kona

This weekend we have our very talented SquareOne triathlete and Energylink coach Owain "Waino" Matthews lining up in Kona, Hawaii for the Ironman World Championships. Waino has spent a fair bit of time with us over the last few months managing niggles and old injuries to keep his body in condition to tolerate the training loads required to enable him to perform at this level. We wish him the best of luck.

This weekend we have our very talented SquareOne triathlete and Energylink coach Owain “Waino” Matthews lining up in Kona, Hawaii for the Ironman World Championships. Waino has spent a fair bit of time with us over the last few months managing niggles and old injuries to keep his body in condition to tolerate the training loads required to enable him to perform at this level. We wish him the best of luck. This is Owain’s second time in Hawaii for the Ironman World Championships having previously competed there in 2013. Owain comes from an elite running background having spent five years studying and competing on the North American College system NCAA Division 1 athletics program. Since switching to triathlon several years ago Owain has steadily worked on his swim and bike and has made some outstanding gains over the last twelve months. As a training partner it has been fantastic to see him progress. He recently had a great race at the Sunshine Coast 70.3 where he won his age group and ran the third fastest run time on the day including the pro field. In Kona he’s hoping for a top age group performance and we are confident that he can deliver this. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Waino over the last few months and seeing his progress. We wish him all the best on Saturday. Go Waino go!!
